UTP — Unshielded Twisted Paired Twisted Paired.
STP — Shielded Twisted Pair Shielded network cable.
FTP — Foiled Twisted Pair aluminum foil shielding network cable.
The difference between “UTP, FTP, SFTP” in network cable:
UTP: Unshielded Twisted Pair.UTP has no metal shielding material and only one layer of insulating rubber covering. It is relatively cheap and flexible to network. The advantages of its wiring are good flame retardant effect and less likely to cause fire.
STP: Shield network cable; FTP is an aluminum foil shielded network cable ;The former is a broad name, while the latter is a narrow noun. But in fact, at present shielding network line is aluminum foil shielding network line, so, STP, FTP is actually the same.In contrast to UTP, FTP/STP is just an extra layer of aluminum foil on the outside of the core wire, in order to reduce signal attenuation. The market is less popular.
SFTP: Dual shielded network cable. The structure of this wire is based on FTP/STP aluminum foil, plus a layer of tinned copper braided net, the most outside is PVC outer quilt.Because of a layer of tinned copper braided net, can greatly reduce the external magnetic field, signal interference, can also reduce the attenuation of the internal signal, increase the tension of the cable. The disadvantage is that this kind of thread softness is very poor, cost is expensive; These lines typically cost twice as much as UTP. This kind of wire is only used in special circumstances.
